Our business model

Taking an innovative, high-tech approach has placed Marel in the forefront of the food processing equipment industry. As a leader in the field, we provide advanced food processing equipment, solutions, software and services to the poultry, meat and fish industries, in addition to the growth markets of plant-based protein, pet food and aqua feed. Our revenue streams consist of projects, standard equipment and recurring sales of parts, services and software. Marel’s presence across various protein industries and regions optimizes our ability to transfer technical know-how, solutions and expertise. This balance minimizes reliance on single industries and markets, reducing cyclicality and exposure to market.

Our legacy

Marel traces its origins to a project at the University of Iceland that began in 1978 and led to a group of engineers founding the company in 1983. Marel quickly made its mark in the fish processing industry with the development of motion-compensating onboard scales.
